Vojvodina at the EWRC 2017

The 15th edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC), organised by the European Committee of the Regions and DG Regio, was held under the slogan “Regions and Cities working for a better future” in Brussels from 9th to 12th October 2017. The programme was structured around three thematic priorities: 1. Building resilient regions and cities – #LocalResilience; 2. Regions and cities as change agents – #TakeAction; 3. Sharing knowledge to deliver results – #SharingKnowledge.

Workshop “Towards more effective EU Regional Policy”

Within the EWRC 2017, AP Vojvodina was, through the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina – Vojvodina European Office in Brussels, a part of the regional partnership “Regional policy future” with the following regions: Umbria Region (Italy), Northern Ireland (UK), Podlaskie Region and Swietokrzyskie Region (Poland), Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (France) and Varaždin County (Croatia), and participated at the workshop “Towards more effective EU Regional Policy ” held at the Northern Ireland Executive Office on 11th October 2017.

On behalf of the host, Andrew Elliott, Head of the Northern Ireland Executive Office in Brussels, welcomed the guests, while the keynote speeches were given by Jan Mikołaj Dzięciołowski, Member of the Cabinet of the Commissioner for Regional Policy, and Jan Olbrycht, Member of the European Parliament. The moderator was Nicolas Brookes, Director responsible for Regional Policy, Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions. Regional experiences were presented by the Lucio Caporizzi, Director of Programming, Innovation and Competitiveness (Umbria), Raphaële De Giuli Morghen, Director General in charge of European Affairs and Mediterranean Cooperation (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), Gina McIntyre, Chief Executive, Special EU Programmes Body (Northern Ireland), Tadeusz Truskolaski, President of Bialystok City (Podlaskie Region), Grzegorz Orawiec, Director, Department of Regional Policy, Regional Government (Swietokrzyskie Region), and Srđan Mačkić, Head of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels. The participants in the debate discussed the Cohesion Policy post-2020 and the common conclusion was that there were a lot of challenges related to the issue, and in order to find a more efficient solution, it was necessary to simplify the procedures within the framework of the Cohesion Policy.

 

 

Marking Vojvodina Day in Brussels – The Vojvodina Story Reception

 Marking Vojvodina Day in Brussels, the Vojvodina Story Reception was held at the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union on 10th October 2017, when the capacities of Vojvodina were presented to other European regions and cities, as well as investors interested in investing in Vojvodina. It was jointly organised by the Provincial Government, Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina – Vojvodina European Office in Brussels and Vojvodina Development Agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.

 The event was attended by representatives of several European regions: the German state of Hessen, Italian regions of Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Umbria, furthermore Upper Austria, the neighbouring Osijek-Baranya County, members of the European Parliament, representatives of the diplomatic corps and others.

The participants at the event were addressed by Igor Mirović, President of the Provincial Government; István Pásztor, President of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina; and Srđan Mačkić, Head of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels. The event was opened by the performace of “Lazar Novkov & Frame Orchestra” band. On that occassion, a promotional film on Vojvodina was also shown, in which the guests could learn about its potentials, in different economic areas, education, science and tourism.

 

 

 

 

 


 

Meetings of the delegation of AP Vojvodina with the representatives of European regions in Brussels

During the EWRC 2017, with the support of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels, the delegation of AP Vojvodina, led by Igor Mirović, President of the Provincial Government, and István Pásztor, President of the Assembly of the AP Vojvodina, had a number of meetings with the representatives of the German region of Hessen, Upper Austria, Italian regions of Lombardy and Umbria, as well as the representatives of the Osijek-Baranya County.

The meetings were held with Friedrich von Heusinger, Head of the Representative Office of the State of Hessen to the EU, Viktor Sigl, President of the Assembly of Upper Austria, Valentina Aprea, member of the Regional Government of Lombardy in charge of education, culture, employment and labour policy, and Ivan Anušić, Prefect of the Osijek-Baranya County.

 The topics of the discussions held during the participation of AP Vojvodina in the European Week of Regions and Cities involved the opportunities for concretizing the relations and intensifying the cooperation that Vojvodina had with those regions in different areas.

Special emphasis was put on the common interest to go a step further in the cooperation so far by linking development agencies, especially on projects towards European funds, as well as by networking scientific and technological institutions. In order to improve economic relations and cooperation, it was underlined that linking chambers of commerce was important in order to organize direct meetings among businessmen and present investment potential.

 During the discussions, it was assessed that the intensification of parliamentary cooperation contributed to learning more about each other, so it was important to concretize the frameworks indicated in the protocols and agreements on cooperation that Vojvodina had signed with those regions.

 The meetings at the Representative Office of Hessen and the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels were attended by Ognjen Bjelić, Provincial Secretary for Regional Development, Interregional Cooperation and Local Self-Government, Vidosava Enderić, Director of European Affairs Fund of the AP Vojvodina, Boško Vučurević, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Vojvodina, and Srđan Mačkić, Head of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels.
