 Vojvodina’s good cooperation with Hesse continues in Brussels

The cooperation between AP Vojvodina and German federal state of Hesse has been developing for years: during the German’s delegation visit of Novi Sad in February, the presidents of the two governments, Igor Mirović and Volker Bouffier agreed, among other things, on closer cooperation between the representative offices of the two provinces in Brussels. In this regard, the representatives of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels attended the annual reception organized by the Hessian State Representation in May, just as in previous years, and yesterday, Friedrich von Heusinger, Head of the Representation, hosted a meeting with the representatives of AP Vojvodina in Brussels.

 Continuation of cooperation with Lower Austria in Brussels

At the Liaison Office of Lower Austrian in Brussels, a meeting was held between Ilse Penders-Stadlmann, Director and the representatives of AP Vojvodina on 24 May 2017. The relations between the representative offices of the two regions in Brussels so far had been based on institutional cooperation in the field of EU policies, especially through the European Committee of the Regions. Srđan Mačkić, Head of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels expressed the interest of our province for further institutional cooperation, so that the administration of AP Vojvodina could further contribute to the European integration of the Republic of Serbia, especially at the level of regional policies.

 Enhancement of regional cooperation with Upper Austria

Srđan Mačkić, Head of the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels hosted Gerald Lonauer, PhD, Director of the Liaison Office of Upper Austria in Brussels. The topic of the meeting was former cooperation between the two regions, which is regulated by a number of interregional agreements and exchange of letters of intent. The common conclusion is that there is room for the expansion of cooperation, because until now only cooperation between the University of Novi Sad and Linz has been realized. During the meeting in Brussels, the representatives discussed the establishment of cooperation between development agencies, opportunities for SMEs and joint engagement in programme of the European Commission - Horizon 2020.

Organized by the European Commission, a workshop on financing energy efficiency was held in Brussels on 30 March 2017, which gathered the most eminent stakeholdrs from all over Europe. In addition to a number of representatives of the European Union, the event was attended by representatives of almost all the member countries, Deutsche Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the largest companies in the field of energy efficiency. The workshop was also attended by the representatives of Vojvodina, led by Mr. Srđan Mačkić, Head of Vojvodina European Office in Brussels.

 Conclusions of the CoR plenary session of 7-8 April 2016

The 117th Plenary Session of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) was organized in Brussels on 7-8 April 2016, for the first time since the attacks of 22nd March. The plenary began with a statement by Rudi Vervoort, Minister-President of the Brussels Region, in which he declared that Brussels would not be cowed by the attacks. A similar message was sent on 6th April by the President of CoR and by the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz. After a wide-ranging debate, the leaders of two institutions urged European political parties to galvanise themselves to counter populism and to strengthen their efforts to prevent radicalisation.

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) organised the conference "Boosting entrepreneurial spirit – pioneering regions and cities in Europe" in Brussels on 9th February 2016, given that the one of the current key challenges in Europe is to renew and stabilize economic growth and find new, innovative and creative solutions to strengthen its competitiveness. Cities and regions are rapidly taking their place as the engines and powerhouses of new economic growth. However, many of them have an insufficient understanding of the functioning and thinking of entrepreneurs and enterprises, or they lack the entrepreneurial mind-set needed to design and implement policies conducive to stronger growth and job creation. One of CoR’s key objectives is to build a bottom-up process of boosting the entrepreneurial spirit in Europe’s regions and cities.

 The main conclusions of the CoR plenary session: further work on the simplification of the cohesion policy, new and more consistent regional statistics and new development indicators - beyond GDP

After the 16th Committee of Regions (CoR) plenary session, held on 10-11 February 2016, the main message delivered by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk and CoR President, Markku Markkula, highlighted free movement as the foundation of European liberties and called for strengthening Europe's external borders. The latest plenary session brought important conclusions, among others, on the simplification of the cohesion policy, availability and updated version of regional data, new and more consistent regional statistics, introduction of a comprehensive Regional Progress Indicator, new development indicators - beyond GDP, treatment of long-term unemployment, rural economy, cooperation in the youth field. During the session, views were exchanged with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk and Commissioners Corina Creţu and Tibor Navracsics.

Serbia and the European Union (EU) signed an agreement on the support to the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Serbia in Brussels on 10th November 2015. The Agreement between the EU and Serbia, which will come into effect as of 1st January 2016, confirms the participation of our country in the Competitiveness of Enterprises and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Programme (COSME) until 2020.
