Clean up action on Tisza River – ADAPTisa project

Last week a one-day cleanup action along the banks of the Tisza River was successfully carried out, during which volunteers and representatives of local institutions joined forces to remove significant amounts of waste from the riverbanks.
The aim of the action, implemented as part of the project “Joint Adaptation and Mitigation Measures to Climate Change Supporting Integrated Water Management on the Tisa River – ADAPTisa”, was to remove waste and raise awareness of the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems from pollution, as well as to highlight the environmental consequences of waste, particularly in conditions of floods and droughts.
The cleanup involved volunteers, representatives of local government, public utility companies, and members of the ADAPTisa project team, who demonstrated through their engagement how collaboration among local stakeholders can contribute to river conservation and the reduction of waste pollution.
According to the official data from the public utility company, a total of 1,820 kg of waste was collected. That amount consists of:
- municipal waste: 1,490 kg
- PET packaging: 127 kg
- aluminum: 67 kg
- glass: 91 kg
- hard plastic: 45 kg
This project activity received wide media coverage from both local and international media, where the entire cleanup was also covered by the Euronews team.
