Project meeting and field visit within the BABECA project

Within the framework of the “The complex water management development of the area of the Baja-Bezdan Canal (BABECA)” project, the 10th joint project team meeting and a field visit to the Bezdan lock and Šebesfok lock and sluice was held on 19 November 2019 to assess the situation in the field and the progress of works being executed at the sites so as to revitalise them during the project, as well as to make arrangements about the activities in the upcoming period. The participants in the field visit were members of the project team of the Lower Danube Valley Water Directorate, PWMC “Vode Vojvodine” Novi Sad and the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina.
The works on the Bezdan lock and Šebesfok lock and sluice are in the final stages, especially the mechanical and electrical ones, while there is still some work to be done in terms of construction. The dynamics of the work is going according to plan and the testing of the hydro-mechanical equipment is planned for springtime.
“The complex water management development of the area of the Baja-Bezdan Canal – BABECA” strategic project, which was approved for funding under the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Hungary-Serbia, with the overall amount of allocated funding EUR 8,699,537.91, of which the amount of the EU (IPA) contribution is EUR 7,394,607.21, is aimed at improving the cross-border water management and risk prevention systems. The project is being implemented jointly by the Lower Danube Valley Water Directorate, PWMC “Vode Vojvodine, and European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
