Ongoing training for healthcare professionals from public institutions in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina as part of the MICROPLASTICS project

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Baja (Hungary), a training session titled “Determining Contamination in Samples” was held for the target group defined in the project – healthcare professionals from public institutions in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

The event followed two previous training sessions conducted in Novi Sad and Sombor and which focused on enhancing understanding about the current situation regarding microplastic pollution and exploring possible solutions for its reduction.

PhD Med Zsolt Nemeth and Janos Kiss presented the following topics to the participants:

  • European Union legislation related to microplastics in the environment;
  • Presentation of developed sampling devices and filters for microplastics collection;
  • Recommended sampling protocol for surface water, wastewater and sediment;
  • Theoretical basis for determining microplastics pollution in samples using FTIR spectroscopy.

And most importantly – in addition to the theoretical part, participants also received practical training, including: sample preparation, storage, and the use of FTIR devices.

Our partners from the Ludovika University of Public Service in Baja were outstanding hosts, providing both a successful training experience and a pleasant stay.
