ADAPTisa: New Guidelines for Flood Risk Management on Major Lowland Rivers

Within the framework of the project “Joint adaptation and climate change mitigation measures supporting integrated water management in the Tisza River – ADAPTisa”, a manual titled “Guidelines for Flood Risk Management Planning on Large Lowland Rivers” has been created to enhance climate resilience and improve flood risk management strategies in areas of large lowland rivers, such as the Danube and the Tisa, taking into account current and future challenges posed by climate change.
The guidelines examine the effects of climate change on water resources and introduce methodologies for applying advanced hydraulic and hydrological models. They also propose strategies to shift from conventional flood defense approaches to integrated flood risk management. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of geospatial technologies and the crucial role of combining adaptation measures with mitigation efforts to effectively respond to climate change impactsThis document represents a significant step toward better understanding and responding to increasingly frequent and intense flood events in the region.
ADAPTisa is funded by the Interreg VI-A IPA Hungary-Serbia Program 2021-2027.
