M\u00f6dling, March 19-20, 2026<\/strong> \u2013 As part of the AVIATOR project, a two-day workshop was held in M\u00f6dling, Austria, hosted by the project partner \u2013 the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety GmbH<\/a> (AGES) \u2013 focusing on \u201cDiagnostics and Surveillance of Diseases in Birds of Prey.\u201d The workshop also featured presentations on the progress and implementation of selected project activities.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to promote the exchange of expertise in molecular diagnostics, surveillance, and methodological approaches related to infectious diseases affecting birds of prey and other bird species, as well as mosquitoes as vectors, while also encouraging professional knowledge sharing among participants.<\/p>\n

The first day focused on presentations covering the monitoring of avian influenza and West Nile virus in Austria and Slovenia, research on infectious agents, diseases, and mortality in birds of prey, as well as their transmission vectors. It also addressed research activities related to vector-borne diseases and the surveillance of mosquitoes as arbovirus vectors, with a particular emphasis on bird populations.<\/p>\n

On the second day, participants toured the agency\u2019s molecular research department and attended presentations by project partners on identifying infectious diseases in birds of prey, alongside examples of best practices.<\/p>\n
