| Project description | Project overall objective is to enhance environmental protection and reduce pollution by identifying sources and reducing microplastic pollution in the water ecosystem within the cross border area Bačka/Bács-Kiskun.
Main Activities:1. Provision of equipment necessary for sampling and determination of microplastics in open surface water, wastewater, and river sediments, as well as for increasing the technical capacities of laboratories involved in microplastic analysis; 2. Development of protocols for sampling, sample preparation, and laboratory analysis of microplastics in open surface waters, wastewater, rivers, and sediments, in order to enable harmonized methodologies among project partners; 3. Design and implementation of pilot filtration solutions for microplastic removal at wastewater treatment plants, including testing and measuring their efficiency, and mapping of such facilities in the cross-border area; 4. Development of software and ICT platform for monitoring microplastic pollution in the aquatic ecosystem, including integration of sampling data, mapping, and research outcomes; 5. Educational and awareness-raising activities targeting public health professionals, primary and secondary school students, university students, environmental NGOs, and the general public in Hungary and Serbia, aimed at increasing knowledge and promoting sustainable behavior regarding microplastic pollution; 6. Project management and coordination, including communication among partners, reporting, public procurement, and financial management to ensure successful implementation of all project components.
