Water Rescue Training Held as Part of the I.D.Danube Project

As part of the “Interventions on the Danube – I.D.Danube” project, implemented under the Interreg VI-A IPA programme Croatia – Serbia, a five-day water rescue training was held. Organized by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia – Sector for Emergency Management and the Fund for European Affairs and Development of AP Vojvodina, the training took place from October 26 to 31, 2026, on the Drina River near Loznica. Its primary goal was to enhance the knowledge, skills and capacities of participants for effective response in water-related emergency situations.

During the training, 12 participants, members of the specialist teams for rescue and work on water of the fire-rescue units of the Sector for Emergency Situations, Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, had the opportunity to improve their competences in the field of water safety, rescue techniques, access and assistance to persons who find themselves in danger in the water environment, as well as the application of appropriate procedures during rescue interventions, through theoretical and practical work.

Special emphasis was placed on practical exercises, teamwork, coordination and timely response, as the key elements of successful implementation of water rescue actions.

The implementation of this activity contributes to the strengthening of the readiness and operational capacities of relevant actors, as well as to the improvement of cross-border cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of risk management and response in emergency situations.

The I.D.Danube project focuses on strengthening cooperation, exchanging experience and enhancing joint capacities within the Danube region, with the aim of increasing the safety and resilience of this cross-border area. Through such activities, the project continues to contribute to the development of more trained, more prepared and better connected teams, capable of responding to challenges and risks in an aquatic environment.

The I.D.Danube project (project number HR-RS00034), with a total value of 1,789,074.92 euros — of which the EU co-financing is 1,520,713.67 euros — represents a significant investment in improving the preparedness of fire and rescue forces, as well as enhancing safety and disaster resilience along the Danube River.
