Lecture “History and Creation of the European Union“ for pupils of elementary schools of of Zrenjanin Municipality within “European Village“ event
With reference to the “European Village” event, which gathers elementary schools of the Municipality of Zrenjanin, with the aim of promoting the differences between nations and countries composing modern Europe, the representatives of the European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, held lectures under the title “History and Creation of the European Union” in the period from 10th to 21st April 2017. The target group were pupils from the fifth to eight grade of elementary schools on the territory of Zrenjanin Municipality.
The lecturers, Tijana Krstić Maravić and Jelena Tošković of the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina informed the pupils about the aims and motives for establishing the European Union and its development, whilst the pupils showed excellent knowledge of geography and history in interaction with the lecturers. Moreover, the pupils had opportunity to ask questions on the subject of the EU and to participate actively in the lecture.
The total number of the pupils who attended the lectures was 1,315 out of 28 elementary schools on the territory of Zrenjanin Municipality, not including the teaching staff.
“The European Village“ project was launched the elementary school “Mladost (Youth)” from Tomaševac in 2012, which was accompanied soon by the other schools recognising its importance, educational and creative potential, and it soon grew into a city event. This year, marking Europe Day, the “European Village“ event will be held for the sixth time in Zrenjanin 5th May with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia – EU Info Point Novi Sad, European Integration Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, as well as the embassies of some EU member states. Marking Europe Day, the pupils from 27 schools will present the tradition and customs of the EU member states. In addition to this unique EU fair, a quiz “How well do you know the EU?“, designed as a competition in knowledge about the European Union for the sixth-grade pupils, will be organised as well.
