Round table held to mark World Water Day

A round table to mark World Water Day has been organized by the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, at which the participants were representatives of the Public Water Management Company “Vode Vojvodine” (Waters of Vojvodina), Town of Zrenjanin, NGO “Inžinjeri zaštite životne sredine” (Engineers of Environmental Protection) and the host. After a presentation on cross-border cooperation programs, in which institutions from Vojvodina may participate, and on the topic of water, which was held by Jano Puškar, the director of the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, Predrag Novikov pointed out the challenges our region is facing. “On the one hand, there is the problem of flooding, which we are trying to overcome, on the other hand, there is drought, a disturbing factor for farmers. The administration of Vojvodina is trying and is going to try to provide support for the capacity building of our provincial institutions and individuals interested in developing European projects, yet we are also providing assistance in training all interested ones across the country”, said Novikov.

Jugoslav Bajkin, of the Public Water Management Company “Vode Vojvodine”, presented the company’s participation in a number of European projects, whereas Vladislava Ivković Čaleta, president of the Assembly Committee for European Integration and Regional Development of the Town of Zrenjanin informed the attendees about the institution’s work. At the end, Igor Jezdimirović, on behalf of “Inžinjeri zaštite životne sredine”, showed some examples of good practice, i.e. the work of the non-governmental sector on water protection. The round table was attended by the representatives of local authorities on the territory of Vojvodina, associations engaged in the protection of the environment and water, and the media.
