The Committee of the Regions holding a session in Vojvodina
Brussels, Belgium – Our province will be the host of a session of the Committee of the Regions of the EU for the first time in mid June. The topics of the meetings will be the relations between Serbia and the EU, as well as the importance of regionalisation and institutional building at local level. Regions are an institutional framework by means of which ideas of what the EU today is are developed in a good way and the chances partnership with the EU offers are realized”, said Predrag Novikov, Director of the Office for European Affairs, after his visit to Brussels and discussion with Lucio Gusseti and Branislav Stanicek, the Commission for External Relations of the Committee of the Regions. Martin Zloh, Vice-president of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, also attended the meetings in Brussels.
The European Commission and Council of the European Union have to consult the Committee of the Regions (CoR) on key issues of regional importance, such as: economic and social cohesion, health care, employment, training, environmental protection, education and youth, infrastructure network in Europe, transport and culture. The areas are covered by the two-third of EU legislation. The Committee gives its opinion on the issues local and regional authorities should be dealing with. The European Parliament also consults the Committee’s Council.
