The Agreement on Serbia’s participation in the CEV program was signed
The Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialog in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Žigmanov, signed today on behalf of the Serbian Government the Agreement on Serbia’s participation in the European Union programme “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” (CERV).
This programme provides the greatest support at the EU level, primarily to civil society organizations, but also to local self-government units, educational, cultural and scientific institutions in the areas covered by the programme.
The total budget of the CERV programme (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme) amounts to 1.5 billion euros for the period from 2021 to 2027.
With today’s signing, the provisional implementation of this agreement came into force and Serbia officially became one of the countries that are equal participants in this program. All projects approved in 2023 for users from Serbia will soon be able to officially start implementation.
The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialog will in the near future officially submit a request to the European Commission to appoint the Ministry as the National Contact Point for this programme in Serbia.
Accordingly, the Ministry is planning a series of events related to the promotion of the programme itself, open calls and opportunities offered by the programme offers to civil society organizations as well as public administration bodies at all three levels of government, institutions in the fields of education, culture, science and many other potential users.
The general objective of the “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” programme is to protect and promote the rights and values contained in the Treaties, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and international human rights conventions, in particular by supporting civil society organizations and other actors active at local, regional, national and transnational levels national and transnational level.
This program also aims to promote civic and democratic participation in order to maintain and further develop open, democratic, equal and inclusive societies based on rights and the rule of law.
The program particularly promotes the participation of regional and local civil society organizations.
It is the largest program to date to promote and protect EU values: democracy, the rule of law, fundamental rights, transparency and good governance. As such, it aims to strengthen democracy in Europe and raise citizens’ awareness of the rights and values contained in the fundamental treaties and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and to financially support the non-profit sector in promoting these rights and shared values.
