MICROPLASTICS Project at the Water Workshop Conference
The project “MInimizing CROssborder water contamination of microPLASTICS – MICROPLASTICS” participated in organizing the Water Workshop conference and presented on the second day under the theme “Microplastics Around Us.” This year’s conference, held from September 17 to 19, focused on “Water Quality.” The project’s leading partner, the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina, presented the project, its successfully implemented activities so far, as well as the topic “Measures for reducing the amount of microplastics in the environment”.
Partners from Hungary presented the following topics: The most effective tools for detecting micro- and nanoplastics in surface waters, The role and research work of Hungarian partners in the HUSRB/23R/12/089 project, and Micropalstics in environment – from sampling to valid results.
Professor Aleksandra Tubić from the Faculty of Science in Novi Sad presented the highly important topic Microplastic pollution: Environmental pathways, human health risks, and the role of legislation, while Izabela Babčányi from the University of Szeged presented Sources and transport of microplastics in soil and freshwater systems.
The conference, which attracted a large audience of public health professionals and students from Baja and Vojvodina, also showcased other projects focused on water quality and the protection of water from plastic and microplastics, including MicroDrink, PlasticDustCloud, UPSTREAM, SUNDANCE, AQUATIC PLASTIC, and TIDY UP.
Attendees were invited to ask questions and join the discussions, and a quiz was held for students, with prizes awarded to the quickest participants.
