The third session of the training course for health workers within the “Mosquito Control in Cross-border Area – MOS Cross“ project
The third two-day training session for health workers has been held in Sombor, within the framework of the “Mosquito Control in Cross-border Area – MOS Cross“ project, which aims at improving the provision of public health services in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranya County regarding early detection of mosquito-borne diseases.
During the project, a total of 5 training sessions are planned to be held, in which the health workers will round off and increase their knowledge about mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. The Public Health Institute Sombor and Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County will procure a supervision system and laboratory equipment during the project, and the health workers will be trained to control mosquitoes and sample methods for the detection of mosquito-borne diseases, such as Zika virus and the West Nile virus, in the course of the training sessions.
20 health workers in total of the Public Health Institute Sombor and Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County, 10 per institution, attended the training session, along with the project team members.
On the first day, the participants learned more about mosquito biology, finding the host, the nutrition and life cycle of mosquitoes. On the second day, the participants expanded their knowledge of mosquito larvae, adult morphology, and in the second part of the day they had practical exercises.
The next training session for health workers will be organized in Osijek.
