EU Allocates €63.2 Million for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Online Safety

The European Commission has launched seven new calls within the “Digital Europe” program, worth a total of €63.2 million, to support the advancement and application of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, digital services, and online security.

Out of the total funding, €9 million will support the development of artificial intelligence–driven medical imaging analysis systems, with the potential to significantly enhance early detection and diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

A further €24 million will be allocated to advancing digital health services within the European Health Data Space initiative, aiming to enhance both access to and the quality of healthcare for citizens across the European Union.

The funds will also support the improvement of digital skills (€12.5 million), the development of innovative solutions for ensuring compliance with EU regulations (€8.5 million), and research into online information integrity (€6 million). Furthermore, €1 million is allocated to establishing a support center for the EDIC initiative, while €1.8 million will fund activities aimed at disseminating and applying the program’s outcomes.

These calls form part of the European Commission’s wider strategy to enhance capabilities in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. The deadline for submitting applications is October 1, 2026.

More information about the calls and the application process is available on the portal „EU Funding & Tenders“. In addition, two information days have been organized: one is dedicated to advanced digital skills and the other to accelerating the most effective deployment of technologies.
