Project description Overall objective:

To improve the provision of public health services in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranja County regarding early detection of mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs) by improving cross-border mosquito surveillance and control.

 

Specific objectives:

(1) To increase cross-border coordination on mosquito prevention, surveillance and control activities and establishment of an early warning system for presence of mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs)

(2) To control mosquito population (native to Europe and invasive mosquito species) efficiently in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranja County by source reduction and adult mosquito control measures with environmentally responsible mosquito abatement treatment

(3) To educate the public and representatives of local government units (LGUs) on mosquito abatement and control measures and threats of potential mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs)

 

Expected results:

(1) Establishment of a cross-border integrated system (ICT tool) of mosquito and mosquito-borne disease (MBDs) surveillance comprising weather data, interactive maps connected to GIS pointing to mosquito breeding sites, data on number and flow of mosquito population including an early warning system for MBD presence in the area

(2) Public health professionals in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranja County will be equipped with surveillance and laboratory equipment and trained for mosquito surveillance and sampling methods for detection of MBDs in order to effectively cooperate with local government units (LGUs) and provide relevant information to the public

(3) Mosquito population contained in critical locations in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranja County by environmentally responsible mosquito abatement treatments

(4) Increased knowledge of relevant actors and the public on individual mosquito population control measures and potential MBD threats

Target groups:
