Closing conference of the Open Days 2007 in Brussels

Brussels, Belgium, 11 October – The representatives of the Office for European Affairs attended a seminar on new requirements for financial control of use of IPA funds, which was held at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs in the morning of the final day of the OPEN DAYS 2007. ”As far as candidate countries and potential candidate countries are concerned, it has been pointed out that it is necessary to establish and improve the quality of planning, management and control of use of IPA funds in compliance with European standards. If our country wants to make good use of IPA funds, it should adopt these models urgently. Our greatest value is trained people”, said Predrag Novikov.

This year’s European Week of Regions and Cities, when more than two hundred regions and over five-thousand participants presented themselves, was officially closed at the European Parliament in the afternoon. The Province of Vojvodina announced its participation the following year as well. The President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, indicated in his closing speech that the EU was based on the principle of solidarity and that better-off countries would have to help the undeveloped ones, since that was a precondition for creating a global prosperous future on our continent.
