Kick-off conference of the project “Environmentally friendly water management in plain areas“
The kick-off conference of the “Environmentally friendly water management in plain areas” project was held at the PWMC “Vode Vojvodine” in Novi Sad on 28 February 2013. The project resulted from the partnership among the European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, PWMC “Vode Vojvodine” and Directorate for Environmental Protection and Water Management of Lower Tisza District “ATI-VIZIG” from Szeged. The project, worth EUR 598 624, is co-financed by the European Union under Hungary – Serbia IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme. The conference was opened by Mirko Adžić, Deputy Director of PWMC “Vode Vojvodine”, indicating the main objective and impact of the project, Predrag Novikov, Director of European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, saying that water management was strategically important not only for Vojvodina, but for the Republic of Serbia as well, and Kádár Mihály, Deputy of Technical Directorate of ATI-VIZIG.
On behalf of the Information Point as Antenna of the JTS – Subotica office, Relja Burzan addressed the attendees and indicated the good use of funds under IPA CBC Programme. Janoš Mičkei, Assistant Director for Development of PWMC “Vode Vojvodine”, and Project Manager of “Environmentally friendly water management in plain areas” project, presented the main project objectives and emphasised that the dredging would cover over six kilometres of the Jegrička watercourse on the territory of Sirig, in Temerin Municipality, whereas the dredging in Hungary would cover somewhat over three kilometres of a canal in the lower course of the Tisza. The budget of the “Environmentally friendly water management in plain areas” project started being implemented on 1st February and would last 18 months, and it aimed at networking of institutions in Vojvodina and South Hungary, responsible for the prevention of flooding and outpouring of rivers. The conference was attended by representatives of the provincial secretariats of the Government of AP Vojvodina, Faculty of Sciences of Novi Sad, Urban and Spatial Planning Institute, Institute for Nature Conservation of Vojvodina Province and Temerin Municipality, where the dredging of Jegrička watercourse would be done.
