A training for health workers

Within the project “Mosquito Control in Cross-border Area – MOS Cross“, whose aim is to improve the provision of public health services in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranya County regarding early detection of mosquito-borne diseases, the first two-day training session for the health workers was held in Sombor on 22-23 March 2018.

During the project, a total of 5 training sessions will be held, in which the health workers will round off and increase their knowledge about mosquitoes and diseases they transmit. During the project, the Public Health Institute Sombor and Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County will procure a supervision system and laboratory equipment, and through the training sessions, the health workers will be trained to control mosquitoes and sample methods for the detection of mosquito-borne diseases.

A total of 20 health workers from the Public Health Institute Sombor and Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County, 10 per institution, attended the training session, along with the project team members. On the first day, the participants learned more about the mosquito species, their biological control and mosquitoes living in the region. On the second day, mosquito collection and the monitoring of larvae and adult mosquitoes were elaborated, and the process of folding and placing traps was demonstrated. The next training for health workers is planned to take place in Osijek.
