The Office of European Affairs has organized a round table to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which has been accomplished on the basis of partnership with the Embassy of Sweden, EU Integration Office of Serbian Government, Clinic of Medical Rehabilitation, Basketball Club of Disabled in a Wheelchair “Vojvodina” and Handicap International from France. On this occasion, state and European legal acts related to the issue were presented, whereas special emphasis was placed on the real challenges with which persons with disabilities are faced in everyday life.
“The concept of support to persons with disabilities is based on the principles of an open and democratic society. Our concept has to be ‘from patient to citizen’, so that persons with disabilities could be active members of society like other citizens. An adequate set of laws has already been adopted, while significant improvement and new regulations are to be expected next year. It is especially important to implement the Law Preventing Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities, at work and during education, and the use of available funds for the adaptation of buses, access to state services, universities, workplaces” said Predrag Novikov, Director of the Office for European Affairs.
