Vidosava Enderić, Director, and Nemanja Davidović, Head of Department for Cooperation with European, Regional and International Institutions at the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina have participated in the 14th Conference of European Regions and Cities in Salzburg, organized by the Institute for European Regions, whose member the Fund has been for a long time. The main theme of this year’s conference was “Europe 1918 – 2018 – 2118”, in the spirit of marking the hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War and in the year when Austria holds the presidency of the Council of the EU for the third time. As Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, pointed out at the opening ceremony, “in the last century we had two world wars in Europe, and today we are facing the challenges of Euroscepticism and migration. For this reason, the European Union must export stability to other countries, including the Western Balkans”.
The participants were addressed by a number of senior officials: Dr. Franz Schausberger, Chairman of the Institute of European Regions, Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the National Council of Austria, Wilfried Haslauer, Governor of Salzburg, Harald Preuner, Mayor of Salzburg and many others. During the three-day the conference, the discussion touched upon the principle of subsidiarity in Europe and the strength of the region, the EU’s energy policy, the challenges of rural development, the digital agenda and the overall future of the EU.
The representatives of the European Affairs Fund and other members of the delegation of AP Vojvodina established a lot of contacts with the representatives of other European institutions and regions and agreed on potential cooperation in the field of regional integration.
