Presentation of the report of the European Commission on Serbia for 2021
The Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, with the support of the EU Info Corner in Novi Sad, organized the presentation of the European Commission’s report on Serbia for 2021 in the Great Hall of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina. The presentation of the report was attended by representatives of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina, the Provincial Government, the University of Novi Sad, as well as other provincial institutions and civil society organizations.
Aleksandar Simurdić, Director of the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, stated that it was no coincidence that the report was presented in the Parliament of Vojvodina, because the experience of European countries shows that regions and local communities play a key role in the European integration process. for the middle and local level of government.
He also noted that the report did not show stagnation or setbacks in any of the 33 chapters currently being negotiated, while acknowledging, recognizing and verifying limited progress in the areas of public administration, the judiciary, the fight against organized crime and corruption, and the media and he hopes that they will be able to follow the European Commission’s recommendation to open two new clusters – that is, seven new negotiating chapters – to be confirmed by the European Council at the end of the year.
The key findings of the report were presented by Andrea Hochuber, Head of the Sector for European Integration and Economy in the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, who emphasized that the EC report provides an honest and factual assessment of the defined criteria and prospects for future steps with defined priorities for each chapter on which Serbia should focus.
On behalf of the EU Delegation, Laszlo Arendas addressed the audience, presenting the new IPARD program as well as the results so far in the negotiation process, with an emphasis on Chapters 11 and 12 – Agriculture and Rural Development and Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy.
