Serbia through the IPA program from the EU 86.06 million euros

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović and Head of the Delegation of the European Union Sam Fabrizi signed today, in the presence of President Aleksandar Vučić, the Financial Agreement for the second part of the IPA Action program for 2020.

The second part of the IPA program amounts to 122.37 million euros, for which the EU has allocated 86.06 million euros in grants, while the rest, or 36.31 million euros, will be provided as national co-financing.

The money provided by today’s signing is intended to support the sectors of environmental protection, energy, competitiveness, accessibility of public facilities, but also to support the EU to implement reform activities in the process of European integration and reimburse budget costs of participation in EU programs such as Kosma, Horizont 2020

The allocated money is divided into three large units, one of which is democracy and governance, which includes the Instrument for European Integration and support for Serbia’s participation in EU programs, such as the Erasmus + education program, Horizon 2020 for research and innovation and “Kosme”, for entrepreneurship, reports Tanjug.
The total value of this block of programs is 14.5 million euros.

Within the block on environmental protection, measures related to climate change and energy, there are two components, and the first is a large program of 45.55 million euros for the environmental protection sector.

This will ensure capacity building for institutions involved in the management of projects aimed at environmental protection and enable regional monitoring of the Danube, Sava and Morava water areas, as well as better monitoring of air quality throughout Serbia.

Wastewater treatment plants will be built for the cities of Loznica, Čacak and Sokobanja, and as part of the support, support is planned for national institutions that will operationally manage the Novi Sad regional waste management system.

A large part of the funds is dedicated to the implementation of initial actions planned in the context of the Green Agenda.

The second part of this block is support for the Regional energy efficiency program, which is specifically intended to finance projects in Serbia, worth nine million euros.

A large block of programs worth 17 million euros is dedicated to the competitiveness sector, within the EU plan for economic recovery from the consequences caused by Covid-19.

It is expected that this support will enable the improvement of economic growth in the target municipalities, as well as the improvement of social infrastructure and social cohesion, and the upgrading of tourist / cultural facilities and the improvement of skills and abilities of stakeholders as part of the implementation of the Serbian Tourism Development Strategy.

For the realization of the IPA program for 2020, the European Union has determined a total of 156.26 million euros of non-refundable funds, in two parts.

The value of the first part of the IPA program is 72.45 million euros, of which 70.20 million euros is the EU contribution, while national co-financing is 2.25 million euros.
