Field visit within the BABECA project

Within the framework of the “The complex water management development of the area of the Baja-Bezdan Canal – BABECA” project, a field visit to the Bezdan lock and Šebesfok lock and sluice was held on 21 May 2020 to assess the situation in the field and the progress of works being executed at the sites so as to revitalise them during the project.  The participants in the field visit were members of the project team of the PWMC “Vode Vojvodine” Novi Sad and the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina.

At the Bezdan lock, there is an ongoing execution of final construction works on ship lock reconstruction and repair. Remaining works include smaller scope of works such as repair of the top head of the lock and repair of the ancillary stop logs storage room. The complete hydromechanical equipment and engine mechanisms of the ship lock have been constructed and installed. The reconstruction of the ancillary stop logs is currently being performed.

At the Šebešfok lock and sluice, the final phase of execution of construction works has been ongoing for some time. The lock chamber has undergone the final works. The repair of the complete hydromechanical equipment including installation of electrical engine mechanisms has been performed. Works on the repair of the hydromechanical equipment and installation of electrical engine mechanisms have been performed on the weir. Electrical works on connecting the power cables to the electrical engine mechanisms have been performed. The outdoor lighting and traffic lights have been repaired and restored. The control center has been equipped with electrical equipment.  In this way, the complete hydraulic equipment may undergo functional tests.

“The complex water management development of the area of the Baja-Bezdan Canal – BABECA” strategic project, which was approved for funding under the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Hungary-Serbia, with the overall amount of allocated funding EUR 8,699,537.91, of which the amount of the EU (IPA) contribution is EUR 7,394,607.21, is aimed at improving the cross-border water management and risk prevention systems. The project is being implemented jointly by the Lower Danube Valley Water Directorate, PWMC “Vode Vojvodine, and European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
