EUR 14 million from the European Union for cross-border cooperation projects between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
The financial agreement for the new IPA III Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 2021–2027 period was signed today in Sarajevo by Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević and Director of the Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elvira Habota, on the occasion of the Final Conference for the previous IPA II Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 2014–2020 period.
With the signing of this agreement, a new sum of EUR 14 million from the European Union became available for projects within the framework of cross-border cooperation between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The support will be directed towards young people and their employment, improvement of tourist capacities and a joint tourist offer.
This continues the successful cooperation and building of partnerships between the users of the Programme in the two countries, which, as it was pointed out at the conference, has resulted in 75 projects from the EU IPA funds, with more than 250 partners from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through the previous two IPA perspectives, the European Union allocated EUR 26.5 million for this programme, and it supported joint projects in the areas of environmental protection, prevention of natural disasters, promotion of tourism, and protection of cultural heritage.
The goal of the Programme is to create more opportunities for employment and to improve social rights and also a better business environment and competitiveness. The total value of the programme is EUR 16.22 million (EUR 14 million euros are EU grants, the rest is co-financing by those from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina who implement the projects). The programming area consists of 31 local self-government units in four districts in Serbia and 67 local self-government units in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The programme is implemented through public calls for submission of project proposals, and projects can be applied for by state, regional and local government institutions, non-profit organizations, educational and research institutions, development agencies, chambers of commerce, civil society organisations, etc.
