Office for European Affairs in Dimitrovgrad
Novi Sad/Dimitrovgrad, 11 April – Upon the invitation of Veselin Veličkov, President of Dimitrovgrad Municipality, Predrag Novikov, Director of the Office for European Affairs, had a lot of meetings in that municipality, where he transferred the experiences of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in regional cooperation and use of EU IPA Funds to a large number of interested representatives of local self-government, institutions, NGOs and media. In a press conference after the meeting, the initiative to form the region of Niš was supported, whilst Mr. Veličkov also announced the establishment of a local office to be involved in European affairs, whereby the Office for European Affairs would provide assistance. Dimitrovgrad, being a municipality on the border with Bulgaria, has important transport potential towards the EU, as well as an opportunity to use EU funds, especially through the CBC Program. “The Autonomous Province of Vojvodina wants to activate the whole country, therefore, we also talked about common future projects on establishing industrial parks, where municipalities from Vojvodina and South Serbia would cooperate, with the assistance of EU partners”, said Predrag Novikov. After the meeting, a great number of invitations from municipalities of Serbia proper ensued, which are to be responded to in the forthcoming days.
