The CORNUCOPIA project presented at the 86th International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad
During the 86th International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad on 15 May 2019, an exchange of researchers from Serbia and Hungary was held when the project CORNUCOPIA was presented.
The “Competitive sustainability of agricultural enterprises through the development of new products with added value based on alternative plant species – CORNUCOPIA” project is co-financed under INTERREG IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia and it has entered the second phase of its implementation.
It was presented by Dragana Latković, PhD, professor of the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, scientific institution where the idea for the project was initiate, at the 86th International Agricultural Fair.
“The focus of the CORNUCOPIA project is alternative plant species. We have taken advantage of one day at the Fair to leave our labs and amphitheaters wishing to promote their cultivation in this way, as well and to point out a number of products based on them. In addition to our neighbouring partners, there are producers and entrepreneurs from Hungary, and we will be happy to connect them with our businessmen,” says Latković PhD.
The interactive workshops within the CORNUCOPIA project are the best place for transfer of know-how. One of them was an opportunity to make sure that there is a great interest in the elective subject – Alternative plant species among the students of the Faculty of Agriculture, which was confirmed by Miloš Ćurčić, third-year student of the Department of Field and Vegetable Crops. “There are forty of us at the department and we all, by fortune or intuition, have chosen this subject. We also know that, for example, broom-corn is becoming more profitable, and industrial cannabis is becoming a real agribusiness,” says Ćurčić.
