International Danube Day celebrated in Brussels
The International Danube Day was celebrated on 29 June 2026, organized by the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union and the Office of the AP of Vojvodina in Brussels.
The audience, consisting of diplomatic representatives of EU member states and candidate countries, as well as experts from the European Commission and other relevant institutions, was addressed by the Head of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Ambassador Danijel Apostolović.
The opening remarks to the panelists were given by Nikola Vučurević, Head of the AP Vojvodina Office in Brussels.
During the panel, Morey Gilland, Head of Sector within the DG REGIO of the European Commission, highlighted the importance of the Danube Strategy and the role of the European Union in fostering cooperation and development in the Danube Basin. Mr. Gilland particularly praised Serbia’s efforts to achieve this cooperation with neighboring EU member states, especially through the Interreg projects of the AP Vojvodina.
Ms. Ingrid Taschek spoke on behalf of the Representation of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union, highlighting the importance of the Danube in fostering economic, cultural, and social connections among the regions and countries along its course.
Mina Radmilović Pjevac, representing the Fund for European Affairs and Development of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, presented a series of successful projects under the Danube Strategy implemented by the Province in cooperation with neighboring regions and with the support of EU funding.
The discussion concluded with a common position on the importance of deeper economic, cultural, tourist and environmental integration and cooperation among the countries of the Danube Basin in order to preserve this river as Europe’s lifeblood.
