World Science Day for Peace and Development celebrated at the University of Novi Sad

The programme under the title “Towards the World Day of Science”, jointly organized by the University of Novi Sad (UNS) and the European Affairs Fund – AP Vojvodina, has been held today at the University of Novi Sad. On behalf of the University, the meeting was opened by Prof. Pavle Sekeruš PhD, Vice-Rector for Science and International Co-operation of the University of Novi Sad. After the opening, Prof. Zoran Mašić PhD, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, prof. Goran Stojanović PhD, Deputy Provincial Secretary for Science and Technological Development, and Ivana Đurica, Assistant Director of the European Affairs Fund – AP Vojvodina addressed the audience.

In addition, there was a presentation of examples of good scientific practice which resulted from EU FP7 and IPA projects implemented by the University of Novi Sad. The project “Environmentally friendly water management in plain areas” was presented by Prof. Saša Bošnjak PhD, on behalf of the European Affairs Fund – AP Vojvodina, while doc. Tatjana Lončar Turukalo PhD talked about the work of the BioSens Centre of the University of Novi Sad active in the application of ICT in agriculture. The World Science Day for Peace and Development was established by the General Assembly of UNESCO and it is celebrated on 10 November each year. The objective is to highlight the importance of commitment for the use of science for the benefit of societies and to stress that science must be dedicated to peace and development. Moreover, this day should contribute to raising public awareness on the importance of science for peaceful and sustainable societies, scientific work and scientific results for the creation and development of sustainable societies around the world.
