Within the framework of the ADAPTisa project, a roundtable discussion was convened to address strategies for flood prevention

On April 24, 2025, a roundtable discussion on the topic of “Flood Prevention in the Context of Climate Change” was held at the premises of Science and Technology Park in Novi Sad. The event was organized within the framework of the ADAPTisa project. The aim of the event was to gather experts in the fields of water management, hydrotechnics, academic community, civil society organizations, R&D institutions specializing in AI and representatives of public institutions such as PE “Vojvodinašume”, Water Management Company “Vode Vojvodine” and Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia.
The roundtable discussion was held with the aim to raise awareness about the importance of climate change and its impact on hydrological risks, especially in the context of increasingly frequent and intensive floods.
During the discussion, the participants addressed the following topics: the influence of climate change on the frequency and intensity of floods, infrastructural and nature-based flood protection measures, the role of digital technologies and predictive models in prevention and risk management, possibilities to integrate the public, private and voluntary sectors in the flood management system.
The panelists were the renowned experts from various sectors including: Dr. Károly Barta (University of Szeged, Department of Geoinformatics, Physical and Environmental Geography), Dr. Milan Stojković (Research and Development Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, Novi Sad), Dr. Srđan Kolaković (University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences), Rade Marčetić (“Vode Vojvodine” Water Management Company, Novi Sad), Marko Marinković (“Vojvodinašume” Public Enterprise, Petrovaradin), and Igor Jezdimirović (NGO “Environmental Protection Engineering Group,” Novi Sad).
This event represents an important step towards strenghtening regional cooperation and implementation of innovative solutions in water management and climate risks, therefore contributing to the realizaton of sustainable development and strenghtrning community resilience to natural disasters.
ADAPTisa project is being successfully implemented in collaboration with partners from Hungary, within the framework of the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program Hungary-Serbia 2021-2027. The main objective of the project is development of innovative platform for integrated management of the Tizsa River, enhancing the cooperation among relevant stakeholders and implementation of cutting-edge technologies to adapt to the extreme weather conditions and mitigate hydrological risks.
