Introducing HeriCraftMarket: an online platform showcasing traditional craftsmanship, heritage craft products, and their modern-age valorisation across the Danube Region.
The HeriCraftMarket online platform (https://hericraft.eu/) has been launched to showcase and support the revival of heritage crafts across the Danube Region. The platform brings together artisans, enterprises, cultural and tourism organisations, as well as relevant authorities and local communities, in a shared digital space that highlights the value of traditional skills and craft products while emphasising the role of creativity and modern thinking in safeguarding them for the future.
HeriCraftMarket aims to strengthen the visibility and appreciation of traditional crafts while demonstrating their importance for regional identity, economic development (mainly in tourism), and community cohesion. By presenting a wide range of craft-related & tourism activities and initiatives, the platform helps preserve traditional knowledge while also supporting its modern valorisation and economic potential.
The platform is structured into several key segments, each with a specific purpose. One of its central components focuses on heritage crafts, craftsmen, and crafted products. Visitors can discover artisans and craft practitioners who pursue traditional techniques and experiment with new ones in pottery, woodworking, textile work, metalwork, and other forms of craftsmanship. Their product portfolios are also showcased.
Another important section of the platform highlights craft-based tourism experiences. These include workshops where visitors can learn traditional skills, craft villages and studios open to the public, as well as destinations where craftsmanship plays a key role in the cultural landscape. By linking crafts with tourism, HeriCraftMarket promotes authentic travel experiences that connect visitors with local culture and heritage. The platform also showcases cultural events such as craft fairs, festivals, exhibitions, and community gatherings. These events play a crucial role in maintaining craft traditions, enabling artisans to present their work, and allowing communities and visitors to experience living heritage engagingly.
Beyond presentation and promotion of crafts, HeriCraftMarket serves as a networking and inspiration hub. It connects practitioners, organisations, municipalities, and heritage enthusiasts interested in crafts and cultural heritage. The platform also highlights inspiring examples, good practices, and initiatives that demonstrate how traditional craftsmanship can contribute to sustainable regional development, cultural tourism, and community building.
By bringing together crafts, tourism, and community actors, HeriCraftMarket creates new opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange. The platform invites artisans, organisations, and heritage enthusiasts to explore the content, share their activities, and become part of a growing network dedicated to preserving and promoting living craft traditions, contributing to its revival, which is a key solution to reinforce the local economy and community in remote areas of the Danube region.
The platform highlights inspiring examples, good practices, initiatives, and even provides training materials that demonstrate how traditional craftsmanship can contribute to sustainable regional development, cultural tourism, and community building.
The HeriCraftMarket Platform was developed within the COMMHERITOUR project and co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Danube Region Programme. More information can be found at: www.hericraft.eu
