Panel Discussion “Investing in the Future: Smart, Green and Sustainable Urban Transformation” Held in Brussels

Brussels, October 14, 2025 – As part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, the Office of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in Brussels organized a well-attended panel discussion titled “Investing in the Future: Smart, Green and Sustainable Urban Transformation”, which took place at the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union in Brussels.

During the official part of the programme, opening addresses were given by His Excellency Aleksandar Tasić, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Belgium, Mr. Nikola Vučurević, Head of the Office of AP Vojvodina in Brussels, and Mr. Balint Juhas, President of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

The event gathered representatives from five European regions: the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (Serbia), the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina), the Channel Islands (United Kingdom), the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Greece), and the Bucharest–Ilfov Region (Romania).

The discussion focused on the main challenges and opportunities in transforming urban areas and regions towards smart, green, and sustainable communities. Through an engaging exchange of experiences, regional representatives presented concrete projects and best practices in urban transformation, climate adaptation, the implementation of green policies, and the inclusion of local communities in decision-making processes.

Participants highlighted the key role that regions and cities play in implementing European objectives, particularly in relation to the European Green Deal and the energy transition.

The panel was attended by around 60 participants, including ambassadors, representatives of European and regional institutions, experts in sustainable development, urban planning, and digitalization, as well as representatives of local governments and international organizations.
