Workshop for children “Colorful Stories” held as part of the “Commheritour” project

Organized by the Fund for European Affairs and Development of the AP of Vojvodina, on Monday, March 30, 2026, a workshop for children “Colorful Stories – Reviving the Patterns of Stapar Carpets” was held, as part of the “COMMHERITOUR” project, of which the Fund is a partner.

The workshop for school children, held at the “Jovan Popović” Primary School in Susek, brought together around 30 children aged 7 to 11, with whom worked Professor Katarina Nikolić, along with her assistants Danica Glođović and Dragana Vučetić, from the Academy of Technical and Artistic Vocational Studies in Belgrade, Department of the Higher Textile School for Design, Technology and Management. In their work, they used an animated film about the tradition of the Stapar carpet and its place in the contemporary context, an interactive picture book, magnetic boards with elements of Stapar carpet motifs, along with usual drawing supplies (paper, crayons, tempera, glue, scissors, etc.)

The children were constantly encouraged to share their impressions and interpret the motifs, both those they were familiar with at home and those they learned about at the workshop. The picture book caused the most reaction, as they were able to touch the materials used to weave the rug, but also draw their own patterns on the rug. The Stapar carpet, as a reminder, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016.
