Delegation of AP Vojvodina at Universal Exhibition – Expo Milano 2015
The delegation of AP Vojvodina visited Milan (Italy), where “Vojvodina Day” was opened at the national pavilion of the Republic of Serbia at the Universal Exhibition – Expo Milano 2015 on 8th June 2015.
The “Vojvodina Day” event was the central one in the two-week presentation of the Province (1-14 June 2015), organised during the official presentation of the Republic of Serbia at the exhibition. The main theme of the EXPO Milano 2015, lasting from May to October, is “Feeding the Planet – Energy for Life”. Serbia’s presentation “Taste Food. Feel Life.” has been designed so as to allow the pavilion visitors to learn more about the present day Serbia, through the rich Serbian cuisine, culture and tradition.
Vojvodina’s presentation is to inform the public about its diversity, rich heritage, culture, as well as its economic potential, especially in the food industry. During its two-week programme at the EXPO, Vojvodina, as one of the most important regions for food production in Europe, moreover, as the region with several prestigious awards having been verified as the most preferable destination for foreign investments, as the place where ICT sector records substantial growth, while agricultural, tourism and water resources provide fantastic development opportunities, is presenting its tourism potentials, along with hunting tourism, special travel destinations, spa and wellness tourism, nature protected areas and opportunities for development in the dairy and meat industry, crop husbandry, fruit and vegetable production, potentials for organic production, as well as a unique gastronomic offer and traditional crafts in the region.
Opening “Vojvodina Day” at the EXPO, the President of the Provincial Government, Bojan Pajtić SJD said that Vojvodina’s presentation, being a part of the official presentation of the Republic of Serbia, aimed at showing and proving in a clear, interesting and ingenious way that the key of future sustainable growth was in the production and placement of healthy food, preservation of multiculturalism and development of environmental awareness. It was also an opportunity to talk to the representatives of 140 participating countries about innovation and investment prospects in agriculture, an opportunity that lead to Vojvodina’s becoming one of the major agricultural areas in Europe. „Vojvodina is one of the pioneers of investment into new technologies aimed at reorganising and developing a new, state-of-the-art agricultural production system of the 21st century. Vojvodina’s investment into the development of science for a decade has been recognised by the European Commission by supporting the “Antares“ project, which has allowed the establishment of BioSens Institute and its growing into the leading European scientific and research institution, thus allowing Vojvodina to become an innovation development centre, moreover, the transfer of scientific results into agriculture and economy and acceleration of Vojvodina and Serbia’s economic growth“, said Pajtić PhD.
Vojvodina’s presentation was organised by the Provincial Secretariat for Economy, Employment and Gender Equality of AP Vojvodina, Vojvodina Investment Promotion (VIP), Regional Development Agency Bačka, Regional Agency for Socio-Economic Development – Banat, Regional Development Agency Srem, Tourism Organisation of Vojvodina and Tourism Organisaiton of Sremski Karlovci.
In addition, the President of the Provincial Government, Bojan Pajtić SJD and Director of the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, Siniša Lazić had a number of meetings with: the President of Lombardy Regional Government, Roberto Maroni; Minister of Agriculture of Lombardy, Gianni Fava; President of Regional Health Council of Lombardy, Dr Fabio Rizzi; President of Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Franco Iacop; President of Municipal Council of Milan, Basilio Rizzo, as well as Mayor of Busto Arsizio, Gianluigi Farioli and representatives of local businesses. The topics of discussion at the meetings were the existing cooperation between the regions, as well as the enhancement of cooperation in the areas of heath, economy and agriculture.
