European Village 2015 in Zrenjanin
In order to celebrate Europe Day, the event “European Village“ was organized in Zrenjanin on 8th May 2015. This year, the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina joined the event as one of the main actors, together with the EU Info Point Novi Sad.
26 elementary schools participated in the event and each school had a stand representing one EU Member State. The European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina also had a stand where the participants and other interested parties could obtain information on the Fund’s activities, learn something more about EU funds and projects and exchange experiences in that field. Moreover, the Fund provided gifts for four pupils who performed best in the test designed for the occasion. Among the participants in the event were Luca Bianconi on behalf of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Ana Ilić, Deputy Director of the European Integration Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Snežana Pupovac Coordinator of the EU Info Point Novi Sad, as well as representatives of the embassies of Greece, Sweden, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and the French Institute in Novi Sad.
The project-event “European Village“ was launched in 2012 by the elementary school of Tomaševac and it was soon joined by other school, 26 elementary of Zrenjanin in total. Since then, because pupils and teachers showed great interest in it, it has grown from a school event into a manifestation of importance to the town. The idea developed from the fact that 75% of young people and children have not have the opportunity to travel to EU Member States and out of the desire to promote the diversity of people and nations constituting modern Europe. Presenting and promoting different cultures and traditions is a way to foster our own culture. The event is always held in May to celebrate Europe Day.
