The ending of ECOWAM project

The ending of the “Ecological Water Management against Extreme Weather Conditions in the Borders Region – ECOWAM” project was marked by a TV broadcast on Radio Television of Vojvodina on 31st March 2020, since due to the CORONA virus and extraordinary safety measures introduced by many counties, among which are Serbia and Hungary, we were unable to hold the closing conference.

ECOWAM project is a cross-border one with the aim to prevent the negative effects on the quality of water bodies by establishing the improvement of water management in AP Vojvodina and Csongrád County, co-financed by the European Union within the Interreg-IPA Cross-border Cooperation programme Hungary-Serbia with EUR 1,494,680.31, which is 85% of the total project value.

The project lasted for 30 months and during that period the following activities were performed: dredging, removal of overgrown vegetation from the river-bed, development of a common monitoring and analysis system for water quality and biodiversity preservation, as well as the definition of long-term solutions in order to prevent degradation of the quality of the water bodies.

The successful realization of the project was enabled by the extraordinary cooperation of project partners, the Lower Tisza District Water Directorate from Hungary, the PWMC “Vode Vojvodine” Novi Sad, and the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina from Serbia.
