SAFE project: 50% less pollen concentration in Sombor

Organized by the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina, the closing conference of the “Support to Allergen-Free Environment” was held in Sombor on 24th September 2013. The project involved the suppression of ambrosia covering a territory that almost doubled the size planned by the project activities, whereas the pollen concentration in Sombor was decreased by 50% in comparison to the previous year. Thus, outstanding results, as well as the project objective, which was to protect and improve the environment, were achieved.

The conference was opened by Nemanja Delić, Mayor of City of Sombor, who handed the awards to elementary and secondary school pupils for participating in the international literary and art competition carried out within the project. The attendees were also addressed by Ivana Đurica, Deputy Director of the European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Rác Péter, Deputy Head of the Joint Technical Secretariat, Tatjana Đurić, Assistant Provincial Secretary for Urban Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection and dr. Saša Bošnjak, PhD, Project Manager.

The project resulted from the partnership among the European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection, City of Sombor and Local-government of Baja. The project, worth 391.000 EUR, has been financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Autonomous Province Vojvodina, under Hungary – Serbia IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme.
