Following the successful visit of the members of the Council of Žabalj Municipality, who had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of EU institutions and opportunities for using the EU programs, the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels hosted a working meeting with the representatives of the municipality of Sremski Karlovci, who stayed in Brussels as members of the delegation of the Republic of Serbia during the meeting of the Joint Consultative Committee of the Committee of the Regions and the Republic of Serbia, on 19th June 2019.

Nenad Milenković, Mayor of Sremski Karlovci, and Stefan Stević, Head of Municipal Administration, while staying in Brussels, used the opportunity to visit to the Vojvodina European Office meet with Srđan Mačkić, Head of Office, and obtain detailed information about the prospects for local self-governments to engage in the European integration processes. In this respect, emphasis was put on the use of funds and EU funded programmes, which are available to beneficiaries from the Republic of Serbia, i.e. AP Vojvodina at the moment. Emphasis was also put on the role of local governments in achieving overall regional development and the necessity for decision-makers at that level of governance to be familiar with the EU funding opportunities.

On that occasion, the discussion also touched upon concrete project ideas which the representatives of the municipality of Sremski Karlovci presented, as well as their previous activities and experience in cooperation with international partners. Moreover, the importance of direct and active communication between representatives of local self-governments in AP Vojvodina and the European Affairs Fund, as well as the Vojvodina European Office in Brussels was highlighted, and steps for enhancing the cooperation in the forthcoming period were agreed.
