Professional event “Waterways Forward”

The professional event WATERWAYS FORWARD, supported and financed under the European INTEREG IVC Programme, has been opened at the administrative building of the Public Water Management Company (PWMC) “Vode Vojvodine“ in Novi Sad on Monday, 30 May 2011. The sessions were opened by Prof. Attila Szalvai, PhD, Director of PWMC “Vode Vojvodine, Dušanka Srema?ki, Provincial Secretary for Urbanism, Construction and Environmental Protection, Predrag Novikov, Director of European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina and Nico van Lamsweerde, Lead partner of “Waterways Forward”.

kep Experts from Spain, the Netherlands, France, England and Serbia have exchanged experience and knowledge in the field of water management, through presentations and visits to sites in Vojvodina, which are examples of good practice in water management. The experts in water managements have been hosted by the European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina and PWMC “Vode Vojvodine“. After that the guests are visiting the hydrolock and sluice in Novi Sad, dam at the Tisa and lock in Be?ej, which are examples of good practice in water management and hydro facilities. The event lasts for two days during which workshops and lectures are being held and a visit is being paid to hydrolock and sluice in Mali Stapar, which is considered to be the greatest jewel of water management of Vojvodina. The goal of the two-day event is exchange of information and experience, especially in the field of multi-purpose use of canal network, development of tourism on waterways and industrial heritage as tourist attraction.
