OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
Overall objectives: To contribute to building an economy based on knowledge and innovation by leveraging sufficient additional research, development and innovation funding.
PRIORITIES AND MEASURES
PRIORITY 1 – EXCELLENT SCIENCE
This priority aims to reinforce and extend the excellence of the Union’s science base and to consolidate the European Research Area in order to make the Union’s research and innovation system more competitive on a global scale.
It consists of four specific objectives:

PRIORITY 2 – INDUSTRIAL LEADERSHIP
This priority aims to speed up development of the technologies and innovations that will underpin tomorrow’s businesses and help innovative European SMEs to grow into worldleading companies.
It consists of three specific objectives:

PRIORITY 3 – SOCIETAL CHALLENGES
This priority is aimed at increasing the impact of research and innovation as a response to major social concerns bringing together resources and knowledge across different fields, technologies and disciplines, including social sciences and the humanities.
Funding shall be focused on the following specific objectives:
Health, demographic change and well-being |
Food security, sustainable agriculture, marine and maritime research, and the bioeconomy |
Secure, clean and efficient energy |
Smart, green and integrated transport |
Climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials |
Europe in a changing world - inclusive, innovative and reflective societies |

HORIZONTAL ACTIVITIES
EUROPEAN INSTITUTE OF INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGIES (EIT) – The Institute operates through the knowledge and innovation communities bringing together excellent higher education institutions, research centres and businesses with the aim of developing cross-border public-private partnerships.
SPREADING EXCELLENCE AND WIDENING PARTICIPATION – Reduction of regional disparities in terms of research and innovation targeted at low-performing countries and regions of the European Union in terms of research and innovation in order to improve their research and innovation systems and policies.
SCIENCE WITH AND FOR SOCIETY – Building effective cooperation between science and society, arousing young people’s interest in science, support to young talents in science and their recruitment, etc.
JOINT RESEARCH CENTRE – JRC is the scientific-research component of the European Commission and includes the following research centres: Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), Institute for Energy and Transport (IET), Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU), Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen (IPS), Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP), Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) and Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS).
EURATOM – Support for research in the nuclear power sector.

Individuals, institutions and companies from Serbia can participate in the programme on an equal footing with those from EU member states.
