General objective: Contribute to the construction of a society and economy based on knowledge and innovation through additional research, development and innovation support.

PRIORITY 1 – EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE
Activities under this pillar aim to strengthen and expand the excellence of the Union’s scientific base and the construction of the European Research Area in order to make the EU research and innovation system more globally competitive.
There are four specific priorities within the Excellence in Science pillar:

PRIORITY 2 – INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP
The goal of this pillar is to contribute to the accelerated development of technologies and innovations, which will encourage the development of the business environment and help innovative small and medium-sized enterprises to grow into leaders on the world market.
It consists of three specific objectives:

PRIORITY 3 – CHALLENGES OF SOCIETY
Activities within this priority are aimed at increasing the performance of research and innovation in response to key social challenges by connecting resources and knowledge through various fields, technologies, including social sciences and humanities.
The funds will be focused on the following goals:
Health, demographic changes and quality of life |
Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine, maritime and inland water research and bioeconomy |
Safe, clean and efficient energy |
Smart, ecological and integrated transport |
Climate activity, environmental protection, efficient use of resources and raw materials |
Europe in a world of change – Inclusive, innovative and thoughtful societies |
Secure societies – protecting the freedom and security of Europe and its citizens |
HORIZONTAL ACTIVITIES
EUROPEAN INSTITUTE FOR INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY (EIT)– The Institute operates through knowledge and innovation communities that bring together excellent higher education institutions, research centers and companies with the aim of developing cross-border public-private partnerships.
SPREADING EXCELLENCE AND PARTICIPATION – Alleviating regional inequalities in the field of research and innovation aimed at countries and regions of the European Union that are less successful in exploiting research results to improve their research and innovation systems and policies.
SCIENCE WITH SOCIETY AND FOR SOCIETY – Building effective cooperation between science and society, developing young people’s interest in science, supporting young talents in science and their employment, etc.
JOINT RESEARCH CENTER – The Center is a scientific research component of the European Commission and includes the following research centers: Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), Institute for Energy and Transport (IET), Institute for Transuranic Elements (ITU ), Institute for Citizen Protection and Safety (IPS), Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP), Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) and Institute for Prospective Technical Studies (IPTS).
EURATOM –support for research in the nuclear energy sector.
