The foundation stone for the construction of the Cross-Border Center within the INNOBEE project was laid
On May 22, 2026, a meeting of the INNOBEE project team was held in Osijek, organized by the lead partner, the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek.
The purpose of the meeting was to coordinate upcoming project activities with a special focus on organizing roundtables in Serbia and Croatia, where the Protocol for Innovative Summer and Winter Treatments in Beekeeping will be presented to beekeepers and the professional public in the field of beekeeping.
The protocol represents the basis for research into the effectiveness of an innovative biotechnical approach to Varroa control based on summer brood disruption by queen confinement and treatment during periods without brood presence in bee colonies.
After the meeting, a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of the Cross-Border Beekeeping Support Center in the municipality of Bilje. The event was attended by beekeeper entrepreneurs, representatives of the local government, representatives of the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia-Serbia Program, as well as representatives of the project partners: the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, the Scientific Institute of Veterinary Medicine Novi Sad, and the Fund for European Affairs and Development of the APV.
That was a moment for a “time capsule” with project documentation and data on the INNOBEE project to be symbolically laid in the foundation of the future cross-border center, as a lasting testimony to the joint efforts of cross-border partners aimed at improving the conditions for the survival of bees – one of the most important factors in preserving life on the planet.
