Within the “Mosquito Control in Cross-border Area – MOS Cross“, whose aim is to improve the provision of public health services in West Bačka District and Osijek Baranya County regarding early detection of mosquito-borne diseases, the second two-day training session for the health workers was held in Osijek.

During the project, a total of 5 training sessions will be held, in which the health workers will round off and increase their knowledge about mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. During the project, the Public Health Institute Sombor and Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County will procure a supervision system and laboratory equipment, and the health workers will be trained to control mosquitoes and sample methods for the detection of mosquito-borne diseases in the training sessions.

A total of 20 health workers from the Public Health Institute Sombor and Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranya County, 10 per institution, attended the training session, along with the project team members.

During the first day, the participants learned more about the attractants (substances that attract mosquitoes), the role of light and fragrant attractants in attracting mosquitoes. In the second part of the day, a field training session was held, during which three mosquito locks were placed. Larvae were also sampled using a tool called dipper. During the second day, the participants checked the previously placed mosquito traps, collected the material and learned about how to store the collected material.

The following training session for health workers is planned to take place in Sombor in May.
